You’ve come to a great place if you want to learn more about
your
family tree!
We understand how overwhelming the internet is when it comes to family tree
information. There are thousands of websites with research guides, family trees (often inaccurate) and access to records you may or may not know what to do with. It’s enough to make
many people tuck their family tree interest away for yet another year when they
have more time to figure it all out.
Let us make it simple.
You won’t find research guides, family trees or access to research records
on this site. What you will find is easy to understand information to show you how professional genealogy can make learning about your family tree easier and more enjoyable. We’ll also show you how easy it is to get started
with the experts at Family Storylines.
Let’s start with a simple definition.
Genealogy means the study of family trees. For some people, that means answering
specific family questions, such as what country a great-grandparent came from
or which civil war battles an ancestor fought in. For most people, however, it
means trying to “trace”
their ancestors as far back in time as possible.
And a simple fact.
You can never be “done” finding new ancestors – unless you want
to be, of course! Look at the example family tree below. Although you could ultimately
fill in all the empty boxes with your ancestors, you would only be “done”
finding your 2nd great-grandparents (that’s as far as this diagram goes).
From there, you could work on finding the parents of all your 2nd great-grandparents,
their grandparents, and so on. It’s entirely up to you how far back you
want to go with the endless possibilities!
So there’s a lot to learn about yourself. Isn’t it time?
